In this section I'm going to talk about the most common categories. Some of us might fall in a mix between this category so take our the important points and as your shape, combine them for best results.
Fashion fades, only style remains the same.
Coco Chanel
If you carry more weight above your waist you are delicious Apple shape.
- The upper body is larger than the lower, hips are slim, and chest is on the larger side. Shoulders tend to be broad. Weight gain usually occurs above the waist in the mid sections and in the rear. They have a fuller face and neck.
- Where to start? Legs.
- Main Goal: Elongate the torso, show off your legs and downplay mid-section weight and shoulder width.
How to dress:
- Avoid loose fitting tops, puff sleeves, and anything that is overall too tight.
- Darker colors flatter your body type best.
- Choose pants and skirt that have the zipper on the back or on the side to avoid attention in your stomach.
- Wear belts that define your waist on top of coats or dresses but avoid them pants.
- V neck tunics will distract the attention of your torso.
- Scoop necks will also fit you good.
- Choose jackets that end at the length of your fingertips.
- Wrap tops, which will give the illusion of a smaller waist
- Seaming on blouses and anything with a corset-style structure
- Pleating and gathering under the bust that draws the eye vertically down the tummy
- Deep v-necks and scoop necks
- Drapey empire styles, provided they’re not too voluminous (that’ll only make the area look bigger)
- Straight-leg―rather than skinny―bottoms build a sense of proportion with your upper half
- Higher-waisted pants and pants with a bit of stretch; these have a girdle-like effect and hold your stomach in.
- Wear low-rise jeans and pants in a straight leg. They are chic and stylish for most shapes.
What not to wear:
- Two piece swimsuit.
- Tops shorter than your hipbones.
- Belts on pants, they add weight to your waist.
- Turtle necks
- Busy patterns.
- Extreme A-lines.
- Tops lacking shape.
- Pocketing on your tops.
If you are looking for a wedding dress try:
- Sleeveless
- A-line skirt
- Empire style waist
- Flowing train
- V shaped neckline
Fashion is architecture: it is a matter of proportions.
Coco Chanel
Smaller top and heavier bottom, like a juicy Pear.
If the circumference of your hips is 10 inch or more grater than the circumference of your waist you are a Pear.
Our main goal is to achieve balance to your body by adding a bit of volume to your upper body and minimizing your lower half.
- Body traits: The lower body is larger than the upper, hip width exceeds shoulder width, and hips and butt are rounded with a defined waist. The chest and belly are fairly flat.
- It´s all about: Shoulders, torso and flat stomach
- Focus: Show off arms, add shape to your upper body and down play wide hips to heighten upper body features.
Famous pear shapes include Beyonce and Kate Hudson.
Your looks:
- Darker colored pants that have a stiffer fabric or some stretch, which will have a slenderizing effect. (A leg that falls straight down from the widest part of you is best.)
- Seams that run down the front of the leg, which create a leaner leg by “bisecting” it
- Wide jeans and trousers.
- Fluted skirts that flare out a bit at the bottom
- Lower and thicker waistbands that help minimize the bottom
- Visually interesting tops.
- Go for tops with lower waistband.
- Empire waist.
- 3/4 length tailored jackets.
- Go retro: Shoulder pads
- Tops that are slightly A-line with a bit of blouse to them
- Low-slung tunic tops (wear the belt below your natural waistline) and ¾-length jackets and tops that stop around the knee or mid-thigh
Stay away from:
- Any fading or whiskering on your denim, which will only highlight trouble areas
- Too-tight tops, which will accentuate the difference between your upper and lower halves
- Attention-grabbing pocket details on the hips and thighs
- Light colors in your bottoms.
If you are looking for a wedding dress go for:
- Puffed sleeves.
- Full skirt.
- Empire style waist
- Wide set straps.
- Low neckline.
- Be tight around the shoulders.
The body is meant to be seen, not all covered up.
